Scholarships
One of the questions we hear most often from children in WEO’s schools and orphanages is, “Will you stop supporting me when I finish high school?” That question has stayed close to our hearts for years. We know how difficult it can be for students in Africa to build a stable future with only a high school education, and we also know that higher education can open doors to leadership, ministry, and lasting opportunity.
In 2022, thanks to the generosity of a faithful donor, WEO Ministries launched the James E. Sykes Scholarship Program to help students continue their education beyond high school. Named in honor of the late James E. Sykes, a devoted believer and generous supporter of students, this scholarship fund exists to give young men and women in Africa the chance to pursue college and vocational training with hope and dignity.
The scholarship program is designed to be self-sustaining and is already helping support students attending colleges and universities in West Africa. WEO’s own Makripodis College remains one of our strongest recommendations for students seeking Christian higher education and practical academic training. The cost of one full year of tuition, room, and board at Makripodis College of Theology, Management, and Technology is approximately $1,000 per student.
Today, we invite you to help us say “yes” when students ask if their support will continue after high school. A gift of $1,000 can sponsor one student for an entire academic year, or you can support a student monthly for $85. Your partnership can help provide education, opportunity, and hope for the next generation of Christian leaders in Africa.
