A Season of Revival in Kenya

The red dust roads of Kenya have been alive with something extraordinary these past weeks. Mike and Cynthia Scherer, along with their daughter Emma, have traveled thousands of miles to join Pastor Solomon Gorvie in what can only be described as a powerful season of revival.

The images tell a story that transcends language barriers and cultural differences. In one frame, there's the intimate setting of worship, where a young man at a keyboard holds his phone, perhaps looking up lyrics or chord progressions, while the congregation gathers around him. The draped fabric on the walls in soft pinks and whites creates a welcoming sanctuary, a space carved out specifically for encountering God together.

Another photo captures Pastor Solomon in full stride, gesturing emphatically as he teaches. The simple church building with its corrugated metal roof and curtained walls doesn't diminish the weight of the moment. If anything, it amplifies it. Here in this humble space, men and women in bright orange hijabs and colorful traditional dress sit side by side with others, all leaning in to hear the message being proclaimed. The decorative garland strung across the ceiling is a small but significant detail, evidence of a community that has prepared their hearts and their space for something special.

But perhaps the most striking image is the one that shows the reality of daily life continuing even as revival meetings unfold. A motorcycle, overloaded with enormous bundles wrapped in turquoise plastic sheeting, stands as a testament to the everyday resilience of the Kenyan people. This is the context in which the gospel takes root, not in pristine conditions but in the midst of real life, hard work, and the practical challenges that define existence for so many.

The Scherers haven't come as tourists or observers. They've come as partners with Pastor Solomon Gorvie, entering into the rhythms of ministry in this East African community. Revival services aren't just scheduled events on a calendar but divine appointments where heaven seems to bend a little closer to earth. These are the moments when testimonies are shared, prayers are answered, and lives are transformed in ways both dramatic and subtle.

What makes this trip particularly meaningful is the partnership it represents. Pastor Solomon isn't just hosting visitors from America; he's welcoming co-laborers who see his vision and want to participate in what God is doing in Kenya. Mike, Cynthia, and Emma have chosen to invest their time, energy, and resources into building relationships that will outlast their time on the ground.

The revival services have become a focal point for the community, drawing people who are hungry for hope and desperate for a touch from God. In a world that often feels increasingly fragmented and disconnected, these gatherings remind us that the church is still alive, still growing, and still changing lives in the most unexpected places.

As the Scherers continue their work alongside Pastor Solomon, they're discovering what missionaries have known for centuries: that in giving, we receive; in serving, we are served; and in crossing oceans to share the gospel, we find that God was already there, waiting to show us things we never could have imagined.
