Makripodis College Trip - Roof Installation; Trip #2

Please keep us in your prayers as we prepare for a follow-on trip to Moyamba Junction, Sierra Leone (SL) to complete the roof on Makripodis College Multi-Purpose building.

There will be only four travelers this time; two old guys and two young guys. Dan Yanchak and Mike Scherer are the old guys and Anastos Makripodis and Justin Sorrell are the young guys. Once again, we don't profess ourselves to be professionals, but we like being a bit dangerous because we know that when God's work is at hand, He equips us, no matter how inexperienced we might be. This is our statement of faith...

What really matters is the folks back home here lifting us up before God's throne. Satan will be there too, but the prayers of the Saints stand much stronger and will get us past the fiery darts that WILL be thrown at us. All because of the case that is pleaded on our behalf to Jesus Himself through your prayers.

Our plan is to leave for Freetown, SL on February 1st and return to the US on February 9th. It's a relatively short trip, but one that is important. Here is the proposed work list:

1) Finish installing remaining roof insulation and corrugated panels (~12% of the roof area).

2) Power seam 1/2 of the roof

3) Install the ridge vent system

4) Lay out the sewer and water plumbing lines

5) Lay out the buried electrical conduit

6) Attach the grounding cables

7) Finalize the window and door placement and procurement

8) Grout the foundation columns

Now, this is a very aggressive work list and it's obvious that our leader doesn't want us to run out of things to do. Thankfully, if we don't have time to complete all of the items on the list, we (volunteers) won't get fired because we have a phenomenal crew of native workers who with limited training, can carry on most of the work efforts. It won't take but a few instructions with some example steps before the workers take over and complete the jobs that we start.

Here is what the roof looks like at present. Well, not really. I couldn't find a photo that shows our completed roofing progress as of the end of our last trip. What is left to complete is the area contained within the blue rectangle (i.e. it's the only section that remains unroofed). Once we install insulation and roofing panels in the blue area, we will need to power seam the entire half of the roof that is shown in the yellow rectangle and then move on to the rest of the items on the list. We plan to drink plenty of water too.

I plan to bring the drone again to get more aerial photos and videos. Our very tech savvy and proven webmaster will be uploading the progress photos and videos on the blog to keep you well informed.

Stay tuned for more...

This was all i was longing to have been a part of. Still contemplating on how stuffy I would have been by now !

However, God did at my father Michael John Scherer's will.
